President Tinubu Celebrates Ghana’s Democratic Milestone

On Tuesday, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu reiterated his unwavering belief in Africa’s capacity to overcome challenges and create resilient, self-sustaining economies. Speaking at the inauguration of Ghana's President John Mahama in Accra, Tinubu delivered a powerful message of hope and unity for the continent, emphasizing the importance of progress at Africa's own pace.

Addressing the gathering as a Special Guest of Honour, Tinubu expressed confidence in Africa's journey toward development. "Our progress is not for the approval of others but for ourselves," Tinubu declared. "We have charted our own course and are determined to raise our nations from poverty and build sustainable economies at a pace that respects our unique challenges and opportunities."

Tinubu’s presence at the event symbolized not only solidarity between Nigeria and Ghana but also a broader commitment to continental unity. "I am here not only as the President of Nigeria but also as an African, offering my resolute support for Ghana and her people," he said, underscoring the significance of shared responsibility in addressing Africa's development needs.

The swearing-in of President Mahama, Tinubu noted, is a monumental occasion for Ghana and the entire African continent. It marks another peaceful transition of power, a testament to Ghana's growing democratic maturity. "Today, we celebrate not just Ghana's democracy but Africa’s commitment to peaceful, democratic transitions," Tinubu stated. "Ghana's success in this regard answers any lingering doubts about Africa’s ability to foster democratic and productive societies."

Drawing parallels between Ghana's journey and Nigeria’s, Tinubu emphasized that both nations owe their strength to the legacy of their founding leaders. Just as Ghana finds inspiration in Kwame Nkrumah and other past leaders, Nigeria too draws from the vision and sacrifices of its founders, who laid the groundwork for its enduring relationship with Ghana.

"May we continue to be guided by the wisdom and vision of these leaders, whose commitment to independence and unity laid the foundation for the Africa we see today," Tinubu reflected. He expressed his firm belief that Mahama's leadership would further enhance the bond between the two countries, leading to shared prosperity and development.

Tinubu praised President Mahama as a leader of vision and dedication, one who deeply cares for his country and its people. "President Mahama is a man with a clear vision for Ghana’s future. He believes in the mission of your nation, and his passion for its people is evident in every aspect of his leadership," Tinubu said. "A leader who holds such a deep love for his nation can ask no more of his citizens than to join him in fulfilling the collective mission."

Looking ahead, President Tinubu expressed confidence that the new government in Ghana, under Mahama's leadership, would work closely with Nigeria to strengthen their cooperation and enhance economic and social ties. He also highlighted the importance of regional integration, emphasizing that addressing shared challenges such as poverty, youth unemployment, and instability would require unity and focused action.

"Together, we can tackle the most pressing issues facing our people," Tinubu affirmed. "Through strategic collaboration and commitment, we will foster greater stability and progress, not just for Ghana and Nigeria, but for all of Africa."
